Arcoxia (Etoricoxib)
General information
Arcoxia belongs to a group of medicines called cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitors. It is used for the following: acute and chronic treatment of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, management of ankylosing spondylitis, relief of chronic musculoskeletal and of acute pain. The using of this drug doesn’t damage the gastrointestinal tract.
Directions
Use Arcoxia exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use the medication in larger amounts. Use it with a glass of water, with or without food. For osteoarthritis, the recommended dose is 60 mg once a day. For rheumatoid arthritis the suggested dose is 90 mg once daily. For the relief of gout attacks the suggested dose is 120 mg daily, which should only be used for the acute painful period. For the relief of chronic musculoskeletal pain the suggested dose is 60 mg daily.
Precautions
You should not use Arcoxia if you are pregnant, have allergy, chest pain, diabetes, heart illnesses, high blood pressure, hypokalemia or convulsion. Avoid smoking. Take Arcoxia only when prescribed by your doctor.
Contraindications
You should not use the drug if you are allergic to the components, pregnant or breastfeeding; if you have asthma, angina, heart attack or a blocked artery in your heart, kidney or liver diseases, gastrointestinal bleeding, hyperkalemia, high blood pressure, Crohn’s disease.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction, asthenia, disorder, body pain, sickness,hyperhidrosis, depression or retching.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor about all drugs you use, especially warfarin, inhibitors of angiotensin converting enzyme, acetylsalicylic acid and rifampicin. If necessary seek emergency medical help at once.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 59-86 F (15-30 C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
