The medication belongs to three-cycle antidepressants. Its main ingredient Amitriptyline influences on the central nervous system. It cause relieve of the disease symptoms. Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed your recommended dose. Do not take grapefruit or grapefruit juice and alcoholic beverages. The medicine needs time to start to work and to give results(2-3 weeks or longer).
Precautions
Before starting your treatment with Elavil tell your doctor if you allergy to the medicine or another allergies, heart problems. Taking the medicine you may feel dizziness or drowsiness or temporary blurred vision. Middle aged people can be more sensitive to the medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding women shouldn’t use the medicine.

Drug interaction
Do not take Elavil with the following drugs: MAO inhibitors (Furazolidone, Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Moclobemide Tranylcypromine); anti-arrhythmics (Propafenone, Quinidine, etc); selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Citalopram, Dapoxetine, Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Paroxetine, etc); neuroleptics; H2-receptor antagonists (Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Famotidine, Nizatidine, etc).Nicotine decreases blood levels of this medication, so you should inform your doctor if you smoke or if you have recently stopped smoking. Don’t eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice during treatment with this medicine. Don’t forget to consult with your doctor!
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule. Don’t exceed your dose or take it twice.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help immediately. The overdose symptoms are chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and feeling light-headed or fainting.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
